2022整合创新设计研究课程总结

This project is an opportunity to develop research, analysis, strategy and design proposals for an innovative furniture and lifestyle brand based in Beijing.
iiinsitu was founded in 2011 by Zhang Yange 张厌戈 and has rapidly grown to become one of China’s most interesting contemporary furniture brands. Their range encompasses large and small scale furniture, storage solutions, kids’ furniture, kitchen accessories and more.

The range incorporates some elements of traditional Chinese culture, but is in no way a ‘heritage’ or ‘revival’ brand. The overriding design language of the brand is playful, utilitarian, ‘affordable luxury.’ There is a clear notion of ‘honesty to materials’ whether this is solid timber (often Ash or American Walnut) or a man made alternative (there are several ranges that incorporate sterling board, or OSB); joints are exposed and pieces are always left unpainted.

The use of mechanical production is a source of innovation. Several of the smaller pieces in the range have been created specifically to make use of off-cuts.
iiinsitu’s factory is in the suburbs of Beijing and their main showroom is in the 798 art district.

该系列融入了中国传统文化的一些元素，但绝不是一个“传承”或“复兴”的品牌。该品牌最主要的设计语言是俏皮、实用、“负担得起的奢侈品”。“无论是实木(通常是梣木或美国胡桃木)还是人造替代品(有几个系列采用纯木板或OSB板)，都有一个明确的‘诚实对待材料’的概念；连接处暴露在外，而且零件总是没有涂漆。

创新的源泉是使用机械生产。在这个系列中，该系列中的一些较小的部分是专门为利用边角料而设计的。iinsitu的工厂位于北京郊区，而他们的主要展厅位于798艺术区。

This project was run as a competition with both Tangshan and LiangXiang students and was supported by 厌式房间 with nearly 50,000RMB of prize money. Some of the winning concepts are shown below.
